FIELDNOTES.CRYPTO SECURITY GUIDE Open Trezor Suite
THE SELF-CUSTODY PLAYBOOK 01 / 06

Trezor Login.
Your device.
Your access.

A practical guide to logging in with your Trezor hardware wallet—without passwords, cloud accounts, or compromise.

THE SHORT VERSION
Connect your Trezor and enter your PIN. That’s login. Your private keys never leave the device.

INDEPENDENT SECURITY GUIDESELF-CUSTODY, MADE CLEARUPDATED FOR 2026

Login, reimagined
for self-custody.

Your Trezor doesn’t have an online account to sign into. Authentication happens locally between your device and the app you’re using.

Your private keys stay on the hardware wallet. Your computer or phone can request an action, but the device signs transactions without revealing those keys. There’s no account password stored on a server—and no password reset flow.

01Device-first

Your physical wallet is required to access and sign.

02PIN-protected

The PIN unlocks the device. Too many incorrect attempts can trigger a wipe.

03Passphrase optional

A BIP39 passphrase can open a separate hidden wallet.

No “forgot password” button—and that’s a feature.
A passphrase-protected wallet can’t be opened without the exact passphrase. There’s no reset or recovery for a forgotten one.

Sign in to Trezor Suite.

Trezor Suite is the official companion app. Use the desktop app on Windows, macOS, or Linux, or open the web app in a supported browser—the login flow is much the same.

01

Connect your Trezor

Use the original USB cable and plug directly into your computer. Avoid unpowered hubs.

02

Open Trezor Suite

Launch the desktop app or visit suite.trezor.io in a supported browser.

03

Select your device

If more than one Trezor is connected, choose the device you want to use.

04

Enter your PIN

Follow the scrambled keypad shown on your computer. Your device screen shows the number positions.

05

Enter passphrase (optional)

If you use a hidden wallet, enter its passphrase. It is not stored on your device.

06

You’re in

View accounts, check balances, and manage transactions in Suite.

Using Suite in your browser?

You may need Trezor Bridge, a small service that lets your browser communicate with your device. The desktop app includes it.

Get Bridge

Your device works
beyond Suite.

Connect to supported third-party wallets and dApps, including MetaMask, Electrum, Exodus, and Wasabi. Select Trezor as the hardware wallet and follow that app’s prompts.

Connecting with MetaMask?

Choose “Connect Hardware Wallet,” select Trezor, and follow the on-screen steps. Verify the account address on your Trezor screen before confirming.

Your recovery seed is never part of login.

Never enter your 12- or 24-word recovery seed into a website, app, or support chat. If a site asks, stop—it’s a phishing attempt.

A few things to check.

Most connection issues are easy to resolve. Start with the basics, and only download software from Trezor’s official site.

01

Device not recognized

Try another USB cable or port. On Windows, install the Trezor driver through Trezor Suite.

↗
02

Bridge isn’t running

For the web app, install Trezor Bridge from trezor.io/bridge, then restart your browser.

↗
03

PIN pad isn’t showing

Refresh Suite or restart the app. Make sure your device is unlocked.

↗
04

Passphrase not accepted

Passphrases are case-sensitive. Check for extra spaces. A lost passphrase cannot be recovered.

↗
05

Firmware is outdated

Update only when prompted in the official Trezor Suite app.

↗

Security is a practice.

Because login happens locally, phishing and physical access are the risks to take seriously. Build these habits into every session.

Download Trezor Suite from trezor.io—not ads or third-party mirrors.

Bookmark suite.trezor.io and check the URL before connecting.

Never share your PIN or passphrase. Trezor support will never ask for them.

Use a strong PIN, and consider a passphrase-protected hidden wallet.

Keep your recovery seed offline in a secure place. It’s the way to restore a lost device.

THINKING ABOUT A HIDDEN WALLET?
A passphrase creates a separate wallet. Even if someone has your device and PIN, they can’t open it without the exact passphrase. Make sure you have a safe, reliable way to remember it.

Model T or Model One?
Same principle.

The login steps are the same, but PIN entry differs. Always follow what you see on your device.

01PIN ENTRY

Model One

Enter your PIN using the scrambled keypad on your computer. Your Trezor displays the number positions.

Computer keypad · Device confirms

Features vary by device generation and firmware. Check official Trezor documentation for your model.

Before you go.

Can I log in without my Trezor?+

No. Your device is needed to access accounts and sign transactions. There is no cloud login.

Is there a Trezor web login?+

Yes. Suite is available at suite.trezor.io, but you still need your hardware wallet connected.

What if I lose my Trezor?+

Restore your wallet on a new Trezor or compatible wallet using your recovery seed. Then log in as usual.

Can I use Trezor on mobile?+

Trezor Suite for Android is available, and USB OTG can connect a device to an Android phone. iOS support is limited.

A FINAL REMINDER

Connect. Confirm.
Stay in control.

Trezor login is physical authentication—not a cloud account. Know the steps, verify what’s on your device, and keep your recovery seed offline. Your seed is the ultimate key. Never digitize it.
